Coxeter Theory: The Cognitive Aspects
نویسندگان
چکیده
Coxeter Theory is a fascinating example of a mathematical theory where the cognitive roots of mathematical thinking are directly evident. The paper contains an informal discussion, made from a mathematician’s point of view, of possible cognitive aspects of the theory. We hope that it will be interesting to mathematicians and cognitive scientists alike.

Eriksson's numbers game and finite Coxeter groups
The numbers game is a one-player game played on a finite simple graph with certain “amplitudes” assigned to its edges and with an initial assignment of real numbers to its nodes. The moves of the game successively transform the numbers at the nodes using the amplitudes in a certain way. This game and its interactions with Coxeter/Weyl group theory and Lie theory have been studied by many author...
متن کاملSocial cognition aspects in children with specific learning disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and normal controls
This study aimed to compare social cognition aspects (affective theory of mind, cognitive theory of mind, and emotion recognition) in children with specific learning disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and normal controls. In a causal-comparative study, 42 children with specific learning disorders, 43 children with ADHD, and 45 normal children were selected from primary ...
متن کاملGeometric representations of Coxeter groups with respect to asymmetric bilinear forms
We further develop Eriksson’s theory of geometric representations of a Coxeter group with respect to certain possibly asymmetric bilinear forms, and we show how certain aspects of the geometry, though different from the standard (symmetric) case, can be fairly well behaved. In particular, we relate the finiteness of certain sets of roots to a combinatorial condition on a graph closely related t...
متن کاملA Construction of Coxeter Group Representations (II)
An axiomatic approach to the representation theory of Coxeter groups and their Hecke algebras was presented in [1]. Combinatorial aspects of this construction are studied in this paper. In particular, the symmetric group case is investigated in detail. The resulting representations are completely classified and include the irreducible ones.
متن کاملDeficits of ‘Cognitive’ and ‘Affective’ Theory of Mind in Euthymic Bipolar Patients Type I
Objective: This study aimed to assess deficits of cognitive and emotional aspects of theory of mind in patients with bipolar disorder type 1 within a remission period. Methods: In this case- control study, 30 bipolar patients and 30 normal individuals were selected through Purposive sampling method for the purpose of the study. Then, they were matched based on their educational ...
